On Being 24 and Single…

I don’t know why, but lately, EVERYONE keeps asking me if I’m still single (Or as a perfect stranger recently put it “Are you married yet?”). Maybe it’s because I just turned 24, and 24 sounds so much older than 23. Maybe it’s because people are genuinely curious. I’m not sure.

What I do know is it shouldn’t bother me as much as it does. People probably just want to know… Like I said, genuinely curious. But why should it matter? It almost feels like people are asking because they don’t expect me to be single. Like I couldn’t possibly be happy as a single 24 year old.

And when my response is “No, I’m single”… It’s almost always followed up with “Oh, don’t worry… You’ll find someone” or “He’s right around the corner.” But, here’s the thing… I’m not worried, and I hope he stays around that corner for a little while longer. Maybe find a puzzle to work on or jog in place for a lil bit.

I’m HAPPY being single right now. In fact, I really like it. I like being I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T… and I have enough going on in my own little world to have to worry about someone else. For God’s sake you guys, I can’t even keep my plants alive.

I’m sure my married, engaged, relationship-ed friends are VERY happy. But there isn’t even a small part of me that is jealous of them. (except the fancy honeymoons to Hawaii… I want to go on a fancy vacation) Someday my time will come… And it doesn’t need to be tomorrow, or next week, or next month, or next year. It’ll happen when it happens.

Meg Free| via pinterest |

So I rambled about being single… And I honestly really never had any intention of posting this (but I’ve been slacking on my blogging lately, and something had to go up sooner or later!) I just wanted to string along my thoughts and rant for a few minutes. AND THEN, thought catalog had to publish  31 Things That Are More Important Than Being In A Relationship Right Now. And of course, I identified with this WAY too much, so I thought I would make my own list of things that are more important… SO in addition to the aforementioned 31 things, here are 10 more.

  1. Not wearing makeup for entire weekends
  2. Having day-long marathons of Sex And The City, Harry Potter, Grey’s Anatomy from my chair that’s just big and comfy enough for one.
  3. Staying up until midnight on a weekday reading blog posts
  4. Getting unapologetically drunk on a Friday night and consequentially, being hungover all day Saturday.
  5. Finding a work-life balance… If such a thing even exists, and I’m convinced that it doesn’t.
  6. Not having to compromise on where I want to go for dinner.
  7. Learning what makes ME happy, and what makes ME sad.
  8. Being selfish about what I want
  9. Eating most of my meals in carry-out form.
  10. Writing blog posts about being single and happy about it.

Crockpot Mac and Cheese

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a recipe up in here. Well, it’s been a while since I’ve posted ANYTHING up in here… I’ve been busy. and sick. Forgive me?

But today I’m making the comfort food of all comfort foods…. CROCKPOT MACARONI AND CHEESE. Does anything sound more delicious than that?

Crockpot Mac and Cheese: objessions.com

The answer is no. Moving on.

Of course I found this recipe on pinterest. Mixed it up a little bit to make it my own. Here is the original link.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • One 12 oz can evaporated milk (I used skim, evaporated milk keeps the egg and milk from curdling)
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups (12 oz) shredded cheese (I used an Italian blend, recipe calls for Italian fontina cheese)
  • 1/2 pound elbow macaroni partially cooked and drained (this means cook them for about five minutes until tender but not completely cooked)
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Sprinkle of garlic powder to taste (optional)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs (optional)

Instructions:

  1. First, spray the inside of your crockpot with some cooking spray or olive oil.
  2. Add in the evaporated milk, regular milk, eggs, salt, black pepper, and butter. Mix until combined. You could mix it in another bowl and pour it in… But I didn’t want to have to wash another bowl. Lazy.
  3. Next, add in all the cheese (except the parmesan) and partially cooked noodles. Stir gently until the noodles are coated.
  4. Sprinkle the parmesan cheese on top. Do not stir.
  5. Cover and cook on HIGH for 30 minutes.
  6. After the 30 minutes, reduce the temperature to LOW and cook for 2 to 2-1/2 hours or until the custard is set in the center and the pasta is tender.
  7. You can leave it in the crockpot on WARM for 30 minutes while waiting to serve.
  8. Sautee the breadcrumbs in a pan with a little olive oil and add to the top when serving.

And VIOLA, You’ve got yourself a delicious little lunch. or dinner. or snack. Hey, I’m not here to judge.

Happy Friday! :)

Sunshine Award!

As you read yesterday, I was nominated for some awards during my blogtember challenge. So I’m playing catch up with all my posts! Lauren over at Love Is The Point nominated me for the sunshine award, and I’m answering her questions today!

Sunshine-Award

For the sunshine award, I have to list 11 random facts about me, then answer Lauren’s 11 questions, then I have to come up with 11 more questions for the 5 bloggers that I nominate.

Random Facts:

  1. I. love. Sushi. I could probably eat it for every meal.
  2. I climbed up a 50 foot telephone pole, stood at the top, then jumped off and tried to catch a trapeze that was 7 feet out and 7 feet up. I missed. Did I mention I was belayed in?
  3. I usually always have a bottle of Pinot Grigio in my fridge.
  4. My favorite snack is Cheddar Chex Mix
  5. I’m the least crafty person I’ve ever met.
  6. I like making magnets out of my instagram pictures (www.stickygram.com)
  7. I think Miller Lite tastes like blood.
  8. I am the only person in my fantasy football league that is undefeated (4-0). knock on wood.
  9. I hate birds. Like hate to the point of almost fear. stay away from me.
  10. The way to my heart is definitely through my stomach.
  11. I’ve been to 21/50 states. I have a long way to go.

1. Did you keep your original middle name when you married, or did you take your maiden name as your middle? If you’re not married, which do you plan to do when you get married? If you plan on never marrying, which option would you say is the more popular among women you know? (This question is a little bit for my own purposes. Hubmoney and I debate this topic often, like practically on the daily.)

  • I’m not married. But I really like my middle name. So I will probably just drop my last name altogether. But I like my last name too… Gosh, its a good thing I’m nowhere close to getting married!
  • P.S. My middle name is Rae.

2. How do you feel about going to the movies? Love it or leave it?

  • Love it, love it, love it. I like it so much, I’ll go by myself.

3. Who’s your absolute favorite person to follow on Twitter? Bonus points for a link to their profile. If you don’t have one, tell us about your favorite blog or website. Something that you look forward to reading, online, everyday.

4. What’s your sign? (Of the zodiac variety.)

  • Virgo, ayo!

5. N*Sync or BSB? You may also choose 98 Degrees, because they were my favorite and I had their Christmas album.

  • I think I really liked all three. I know I had a 98 degrees poster, if that helps clarify anything. But, as an adult, I like all of them.

6. Favorite food? Are you a connoisseur or just an average fan? Please list any ways that your love for this food goes above & beyond the call of duty.

  • Guys, seriously. My love for Chipotle has reached outrageous heights. I’m way more than an average fan. I think we need an intervention. (There are currently three chipotle chip bags on my coffee table.) And now I want it again.

7. What is your favorite thing that you ever got for Christmas? What is your favorite thing that you ever gave someone else for Christmas? Yes, I know it’s two questions. You may answer either, or both. Just roll with it.

  • I think the most creative Christmas gift my parents ever gave my sister and I were the cell phones we got in grade school. They turned them on in the boxes and when we had them in our hands, they started ringing. Then there was the time I asked for a dog for Christmas and they gave me a stuffed dog that I named Benji.
  • And the favorite gift I ever gave wasn’t necessarily a gift from me… But in 2006, we surprised the twins with our dog Bella… We told them we were going to cut down our Christmas tree, and drove an hour to pick her up. Jen and I were in on the surprise, so that counts, right?
  • Or there was the year that my boyfriend and I got each other the same. exact. thing. I kid you not.

8. What was the title of your very first blog post?

9. Righty or lefty? Any exceptions to the rule? (Any ways that you used the non-dominant side?)

  • I’m a righty. But when I broke my arm in 2004, I was in a sling for 4 months, so I had to feed myself with my left hand (thankfully over the summer so I never had to learn to write). Weirdly, I put my contacts in with the respective hand (left with left, right with right). Same with shaving my legs.

10. Favorite color? Since when? Kudos to those of you who are loyal, lifelong color lovers.

  • Orange has been my favorite color since I can remember. There was a brief period of time where lime green took over. But orange is back to stay.

11. When’s the last time you did a good deed, and what was it? In case you don’t read my blog – even the tiniest deeds count.

  • I let someone cut in front of me in Panera yesterday. She didnt realize I was in line, but she had two small children with her, so I just let her go. That was nice of me, right?

And my questions:

  1. What was the last concert you went to? Favorite concert?
  2. What is your favorite place in the United States that you have been to?
  3. What is your all-time favorite book? movie?
  4. Share a picture of yourself when  you were little. If you don’t have one, share a recent picture! Or share both.
  5. How much time (on average) do you spend on the internet each day?
  6. What is your favorite “genre” of food? Mexican, Italian, etc.
  7. What has been your favorite birthday? What did you do that made it so special?
  8. What is your favorite song RIGHT NOW?
  9. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
  10. What is your biggest pet peeve?
  11. What’s your favorite post you’ve ever written?

And the nominations are:

Awards on Awards on Awards

Hi Friends!!

Since the start of blogtember, this little blog of mine has been nominated for not one… not two… but THREE awards. All of these involve me answering questions from the nominator, and then nominating other blogs as well.

So. I was nominated by Akshita over at readwriteloveblog AND Cassie over at asouthernpair for the Liebster award.

liebster

And then I was nominated for the Sunshine Award by Lauren over at loveisthepoint.

Sunshine-Award

So, first of all… THANK you, to all of the fabulous ladies that nominated me. I’m so happy to have met all of you through this blogging adventure, and I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy reading yours. I wish I could re-nominate you. ;)

But, I think this will have to be in two separate posts… Otherwise, I would be answering like, 40 get-to-know you type questions in one post, and thats just a little much. So here is my Liebster post, and watch for my Sunshine post tomorrow!

Liebster rules:

You must link back the person who nominated you.
You must answer the 10 Liebster questions given to you by the nominee before you.
You must pick 10 bloggers to be nominated for the award with under 200 followers.
You must come up with 10 questions for your nominees to answer.
You must go to their blogs notify your nominees.

Questions from Akshita:

1. What are some of the places that you would like to visit in your lifetime?

  • Oh gosh. Where do I start? I want to go to Spain, France, Germany, back to England, India, Thailand, South Africa, Ireland, Bora Bora, etc, etc, etc.

2. Do you read? If so, what kind of books do you like? If not, what do you like doing in your spare time?

  • I do love to read. I don’t necessarily have as much time to read as I would like. But I’m currently working through the Game of Thrones series. As well as the Harry Potter series for the second time :)

3. What are some of your favorite posts? Link them here.

I haven’t been blogging for TOO long, so I don’t have many posts to choose from…

4. Are you a morning person?

  • Absolutely not. The hardest thing I will do every day is get myself out of bed. Even once I am out of bed, I take my time getting ready… Sitting down almost every chance I get. Once I’ve had a cup of coffee, I’m pretty good to go.

5. Do you like modern or antique furniture?

  • I’d have to go with modern. Although I’m still trying to figure out my style when it comes to furnishing and decorating my apartment.

6. If you had a choice, which animal (non-human) would you like to be?

  • An elephant… No doubt.

7. Do you have a preferred place where you write? Or are you comfortable anywhere?

  • Usually my blog posts are written from my couch or bed… Occasionally I’ll go up to a coffee shop or write a quick one from my phone (like THIS one). I will give you one piece of advice… Blogging from an iPad SUCKS

8. Describe one quirky habit that you have.

I’m going to name a few, because I think this is an awesome question.

  • I brush my teeth in the shower every morning.
  • I always put my parking-break on, even if i’m parked on a flat surface.
  • I sleep diagonal in my bed… Might be a problem when/if I ever get married…

9. Favorite quote. You can have more than one.

  • I wrote about some of my favorite quotes HERE. But one thing I say to myself a lot is “Not my circus, Not my monkeys.” Meaning, this isn’t my problem, I don’t need to get overly involved ESPECIALLY if it’s a sticky situation, or no one asked for my help. Not my circus.

10. How do you like spending your birthdays?

  • I’ve never been one to make a huge deal out of my birthday (at least as an adult). I don’t really make people come out with me, or buy me gifts or anything. I’m content with just celebrating with family and a few friends by going to dinner and having a cake (white cake with white frosting, obviously). This year, my friends threw me an awesome surprise party! So much fun! :)

And my questions from Cassie:

1. What is your favorite season? Why?
  • DEFINITELY fall. Summer is nice when it comes around, but this time of year, I’m ready for scarves, pumpkin scented candles, pumpkin flavored everything, boots, jackets, etc. The whole season just makes me feel so cozy!
2. Where is your happy place?
  • Cassie’s is Disney World… which is why I love her so much… Because my happy place is Disney as well. How can you not be happy when surrounded by magic and princesses and fantasy? Can’t wait to go back in February!
3. Do you pick out your outfits in advance for the next day? Or, like me, do you stand in your closet and lament the fact that you have nothing to wear?
  • UM. I never have anything to wear. Yesterday, I consumed an ENTIRE CUP OF COFFEE while trying to decide what to wear. And I was not dressed for the unseasonably warm weather. So I was a hot sweaty mess in my sweater and boots all day long.
  • Proof, via twitter… From yesterday.

Twitter4. What is your favorite beauty product?

  • This is a toss up between the Mary Kay Satin Lips that I reviewed last week and the Fekkai shampoo that my neighbor gave me to sample, that I am now convinced I need. I also really like my cover-girl lash blast mascara. Except it’s not waterproof.
5. How do you like to spend your weekends?
  • I love to get to see my friends and family over the weekend. But if I don’t get enough time to recharge from the week before, I have a hard time getting to work on Monday morning (but who doesn’t). So getting the right balance of seeing all my people and sleeping.
6. Describe your perfect date. {bonus points if you can name the movie!}
  • I’d have to say… April 25th. Because it’s not too hot and it’s not too cold. All you need is a light jacket.
  • But really, just one that DOESN’T end with me banging my head against the steering wheel in my car because the conversation was just. that. painful would be nice…  yes, actually happened.
7. Do you have any pets? Share them with us! If not, what is your ideal pet?
  • I have two little pups at my parents house. They are crazy and adorable. Here’s a pic (they think they are children)

Bella and Tini

8. If money was no object, where would you live? What would your dream house look like?
  • I’d probably want to live in like… New York City, or San Francisco. Somewhere totally different than what I’m used to. But as far as dream houses go, it needs a big backyard for running and playing and maybe a pool. Would probably look something like this: (thanks, pinterest)
Dream Home
9. Do you drink coffee? When?
  • Only when I’m conscious and breathing. (usually substitute in Diet Coke around lunch time)
10. Tell one good thing that you liked about high school.
  • So many good things from high school. I met my best friend in high school. And my school had these AHHHHHMAZING cookies. They were 3 for $1, and I’m pretty sure Michelle bought $5 worth on our last day of school senior year (yes, that’s 15 cookies, and yes, they were that good). That was also the day I ordered a pizza while we were in church to have delivered at lunch (pre-smartphone days, so I was actually on the phone with Papa Johns). AHHH memories.

SO, That’s me… And here are the bloggers that I wish to nominate for the Liebster award!

And here are the questions!

  1. If money wasn’t a problem, what would your dream job be?
  2. What’s one thing you are really bad at, but wish you were good at?
  3. What is your favorite snack food? (Mine’s cheddar chex mix!)
  4. Do you sing in the shower or car? What do you normally sing?
  5. What’s your typical order at starbucks? (or other coffee shop)
  6. What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
  7. Why did you start blogging?
  8. What is your favorite article of clothing or accessory that you wear over and over again?
  9. Do you usually cook your meals or eat out? What is your favorite thing to cook?
  10. What is your favorite quote?

See you tomorrow for part 2 of the award game!

An Open Letter To My Facebook Friends

Day 19 Prompt: An anonymous letter to your Facebook friends. Be as snarky as you’d like.

ObjessionsJust so happens to be my facebook prof pic right now.

Now, I’ll be the first one to hop on the “I hate facebook” wagon. I don’t really like it. But at the same time, I’m much too addicted to get rid of it. The main reason I hold on to it is because I keep in touch with family from all over the world. In my social media post a few weeks ago, I talked about how it’s the root of all that is evil and I wish I was strong enough to rid myself of it entirely (Maybe for Lent next year…)

Anyway, I digress.

This is supposed to be a letter to YOU, dear facebook friends.

The more I read some of your status updates, the more I value my education. Some of the run-on sentences and silly grammar mistakes just make me laugh to myself… I think “We were in the same English class ALL. THROUGH. HIGH SCHOOL. How can you be making that mistake as a 25 year old??!” Threw and through should not be mixed up by ANY person with the equivalent of a high school diploma (your/you’re, to/too/two, there/their/they’re count too). Just sayin. (I understand spelling words wrong and typos… everyone is human.) And don’t blame it on autocorrect.

Your baby is really cute. Really. But posting statuses about his or her bowel movements is just not necessary. I get it… It’s exciting when he or she stops pooping in his or her pants and you no longer have to clean it up. Or it’s really gross when he or she has some kind of poop explosion all over him/herself. But the rest of the facebook world does not care. On the other hand, some of you that have babies post really funny things that they say and/or do. Keep those posts coming. No more poop related ones though. Thanks.

But there are some of you that make me feel really hopeful for society. People doing mission trips all over the world, and posting pictures of them helping others. YOU folks make me want to be a better person. And to go out and help someone. Then post it on facebook so everyone think’s I’m a good person too.

If you post about Cleveland sports, I probably secretly laugh at you. Or not so secretly. Sorry. You can come back and say that the Bengals have been bad forever and that the Reds suck. But I don’t care. I still laugh.

If you watch an episode of Breaking Bad and DON’T post something about it, did it actually happen?

I love 95% of the buzzfeed articles that come through my news feed, so keep those coming. Sometimes I just don’t have time to go out and find those gems on my own.

If we don’t speak in real life, I’m probably not going to come to your happy hour. To the same tune… If you invite me to ‘like’ a page, I’m probably not going to like it… This does not include pages for friend’s businesses. I’ll like your business page because I want you to succeed. But, don’t invite me to like American Idol.

You guys travel all over the world and do really cool things and then post pictures of it to make me jealous. And it works. Now I want to go do really cool things to make you jealous. It’s a vicious circle. Let’s just do cool things together so no one gets jealous. K?

To everyone that runs or bikes or does triathlons… Keep doin’ what you do. And keep posting about it. Because maybe one day (not today) it will shame me into getting off my fat ass and running around the block.

Seriously though, if you have more than one cat, and you take pictures of yourself holding your CATS, you ARE in fact a crazy cat lady/man.

I’m sorry if I forgot to wish you a happy birthday. Please don’t take it personally.

#seriously #how #annoying #is #this. #if #you #have #more #than #one #hashtag #in #a #post #i #am #questioning #why #we #are #friends… #seriously.

All 726* of you are my Facebook Friends for a reason. I’ve gone through multiple purges and rid myself of the riff raff and the people I met one time and never talked to again. So, YOU are it. Thanks for being my internet friends. And real life friends (for only like, MAYBE half of you)

*726 at the time of posting. I’m sure some people will be offended by this post and mysteriously drop off my friend list. See ya later.

But, according to my blog statistics, only 40 of my facebook friends will read this anyway, so I don’t think I have anything to worry about. (The 40 of you that read this are the coolest, and you get a special friendship prize)

Things That Make Me Smile.

Blogtember is almost over, you guys. I’m getting sad. And really scared of coming up with my own blogging topics. Anyone else?

Day 18 prompt: Go to a coffee shop. Order a favorite drink. Write about what makes you happy and what makes you sad. Or write about anything you’d like!

I’m just going to say, I did not want to go to a coffee shop. I have a belly full of sushi, and I would have been completely content writing this from the bed in my hotel room. But. I remembered my challenge. I’m saying yes. So, I climbed into the monstrosity that Hertz gave me this week (any HIMYM fans out there watch this weeks episode?) and drove down the street to Starbucks (the only coffee shop in Greeley, Colorado). Ordered my SECOND pumpkin spice latte of the day (decaf, because it’s 7pm). Bought a reusable cup. Helped out the environment. Good deed of the day complete… And now, I write.

I’m only going to write about things that make me happy. Because right now, I’m in a great mood, and it’s hard to think of what makes you sad when you’re not sad. So, in no particular order…

My Family. I talked about it in my love letter to my parents, but it applies to my sisters, grandparents cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. too. I am so blessed to have family that is always lifting me up and making me laugh. I hope that I make them as happy as they make me.

My Friends. These people really understand the concept of WORK HARD. PLAY HARD. I’m friends with the kind of people that bust their asses all week long, then unwind over the weekend. My heart is happy knowing that I have a group of selfless friends that laugh at my weird jokes and move chairs from ikea and celebrate my birthday over the course of two weekends instead of one and have snapchat conversations instead of text messages. (I could go on…) These people are great. Thanks for being you ;)

My Dogs

Cheesecake (any kind of cheese for that matter)

Fall Weather (scarves, sweaters, boots, etc.)

Pumpkin Spice Lattes (goes with fall weather)

Stepping on crunchy leaves

Freshly made beds

Long, tight hugs

Taking in Earth’s beauty (like the mountains in Colorado I got to see this week)

RAK (Random Acts of Kindness)

Harry Potter

Pictures of Elephants or seeing an elephant at the zoo

The first warm breeze that smells like spring and means winter is over

The first cool breeze that smells like fall and means summer is over

Disney Movies, or anything from the 90s

Anything related to Christmas or Christmas season

A clean apartment (pretty rare for me)

Knowing the answer to a question on Jeopardy

Candles

Home-cooked meals

Driving with the windows down and the music up

Stopping at the mall on my way home

Getting mail (not bills)

Sleeping in

When I wake up in the middle of the night and realize I still have several hours left to sleep

YouTube videos of babies laughing and soldiers coming home

Sitting on the beach without technology to distract me

Airports (when I’m not being held there against my will)

Outer-Space

Music

Buying things on sale

Diet Coke

Dancing

Getting blog comments (so leave one with what makes YOU happy)

I Make Aggressive Mistakes

Blogtember Day #17: Write about a time you screwed up – a mistake you made.

I’ve been thinking about this prompt since day 1 of blogtember. I’ve made lots of mistakes, surely one will come to me over the course of a month and I can write about it. But, I’m still drawing a blank.

ICEDpssssst, Jess… You’re probably going to regret that in the morning!

A few weeks ago, my best friend and I went to church at Crossroads here in Cincinnati. The main message of the day was fear. (which was oddly timed, because it was the week after I wrote this post on FEAR) But something that the preacher said really struck a chord with me… He said “Don’t make passive mistakes.” Meaning, if you’re going to make a mistake, MAKE it. Don’t leave a situation wishing you had said or done something.

I figured out that THIS is why I can’t think of any mistakes that I’ve made. I make aggressive mistakes. If I’m doing something, chances are I’m not passively participating. I’m not scared of making a mistake. Maybe it’s my personality, but I’m much more likely to regret something I didn’t do, rather than something I did do (except that time I drunk dialed my parents when I was trying to call my voicemail.)

Sure, there are mornings when I wake up and really regret that last drink. One time, I made the mistake of lighting a candle and then falling asleep. My room smelled like lavender when I woke up. I drove the wrong way down a one way street. I went out of town one week and forgot to lock my apartment. I painted my nails right before I went to bed and woke up with them stuck to my blanket. I took Benedryl in the morning thinking it was Zyrtec. There was that time my mom asked me to watch a pot of boiling spaghetti while she went to pick my sisters up… Naturally, I forgot, and it caught on fire. One time, I made banana bread, but put it in a loaf pan that was too small, so it overflowed and created a huge mess in my oven. Or remember the time I made cheesecake in the middle of the night and added 1000x the amount of cinnamon (click here for that story)…  If you’re making mistakes, it means you’re out there doing something, right?

I don’t really regret any of the mistakes I’ve made. Even the “BIG” ones (that I still can’t think of right now). I’m certainly not perfect, but any mistakes I’ve made have molded me into who I am today. And I don’t think if I had or hadn’t done something, that I would be any better or worse off than I am now.

i love this.

What is one “mistake” that you DON’T regret making?

Satin Lips: A Review!

Day X (?) of blogtember. And the prompt is: Review a book, place, or product.

So I’m here to write about my FAVORITE new product!

I went to a Mary Kay party at the beginning of the summer. Not really sure if I was going to buy anything, but just wanted to hang with some of my friends from work. But I discovered THE BEST treatment for dry, chapped lips. SATIN LIPS by Mary Kay!

And I don’t know about you, but my lips are always dry (ESPECIALLY in the winter). It seems that I could put Chapstick on for days, and an hour later, they’re dry and cracked again. Ouch. (Probably because I’m always licking the Chapstick off my lips… I’m weird)

So the consultant brings out this lip mask. You put in on your lips, and it exfoliates all the dead skin off (like when you exfoliate your face). Leave it on for 1-2 minutes, then wipe off. Because the mask is white, wiping off is KEY here… Otherwise, you look like this:

Follow up with the lip balm, and your lips will be silky smooth for HOURS. AND HOURS. The lip balm is not tinted, but it always makes my lips look super pink… Proof:

You can reapply the balm as often as you’d like, but the mask should only be used once or twice a week. Neither of them are scented, and I usually put the balm on under my lip gloss (although in the photo above, I only have the balm on!)

It’s a little on the expensive side, as far as lip products go. But it’s one of those things little things that just WORKS. I can justify the expense because 1- it lasts relatively long (I’ve used it 1-2 times a week since May, and still have at least half the bottle left). and 2- it works SO much better than everything else I’ve ever tried.

So, THAT is my new favorite product. And now, everyone knows what they’re getting for Christmas this year… Sorry.

I also really like the Satin Hands… Same concept, but for you hands. Obviously.

What is your favorite beauty secret? Also, this was my first “beauty-related” post… Thoughts?

Life Lately / My Weekend in Photos

Happy Monday! (Said no one ever.)

Today’s blogtember prompt is a life lately kind of post.

I basically have the best friends ever. For my/Seth’s birthday, they planned a “surprise” trip on the pedal wagon! I say “surprise” because it wasn’t really a surprise after several people spilled the beans. It rained, but we had SO much fun!

After bar hopping around, we had dinner at a sushi restaurant (and my phone stayed a little longer on the pedal wagon, so I have no pictures from dinner). Pretty sure everyone there wanted to kill us. Because we were not sober and not quiet. Oops.

Saturday, something extraordinary happened. GOD himself texted me.

(was really my friend logged into Find my iPhone from the night before, but hungover/dead Jess had no idea what was going on.)

We all went down to Oktoberfest in downtown Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon. We actually didn’t spend a ton of time at Oktoberfest before heading to a bar to watch some college football! When walking home, I managed to stub my toe on some kind of cement block. Pretty sure it’s broken. NBD.

And finally, on Sunday we watched the bengals beat the packers from my friends patio. A bee was killed in the buffalo chicken dip… It was an exciting day.

Well. I watched all but the last 10 minutes before I had to leave to catch a flight. Arguably the best 10 minutes of the game. And I had to listen on the radio. Awful.

So that’s Jess’ life lately. What’s up with you guys??

Comfortable.

Sorry for not playing along in blogtember yesterday, I am not a creative writer. So skipping that prompt just made sense.

Day 14. React to this term: comfort

In general, I try to stay in my own comfort bubble. I’ve built this little world for myself that doesn’t really challenge me to step outside my comfort zone too often. And there’s nothing wrong with that really. But what’s that saying … life begins at the end of your comfort zone?

Angels of Mercy - Storypeople

I like comfortable things. Comfy pants, comfy beds, comfy chairs. And I generally won’t stay somewhere too long if it’s making me uncomfortable. I was at a client in San Francisco earlier this year, and our project room had folding chairs. And if you’ve ever sat in a folding chair for an extended period of time, you know it is NOT COMFORTABLE. By the end of the week, I felt like an old lady, and went searching for a chair that was … you guessed it … more comfortable.

Because being uncomfortable isn’t natural. It’s even uncomfortable to write or talk about things that are uncomfortable. (some words make people uncomfortable… i’m not really that way though. a lot of people hate the word moist. just sayin’)

So, my new goal is to get comfortable with the uncomfortable. To SAY YES to more things that I would normally avoid. And to live more from intention and less from habit.

Purpose.

So, Will you do something this weekend that you normally wouldn’t do? Will you step out of your comfort zone and say YES? (see how I tied those two posts together?!)

-Jess

P.S. I realize this is kind of about “uncomfortable” … Oh, well.
